Specialist Wooden Boat Building Service
Marcus' love for the maritime began at young age. Having grown up in close proximity of the River Fowey, much of his childhood revolved around the river and boats. He started his career as an apprentice in a local boatyard in Fowey, where he learned the craft of building, repairing, and restoring small wooden and GRP vessels. One of his final jobs at the boatyard was the restoration of "Bluebottle", a Dragon-class yacht which was originally one of the Queen's wedding presents. She proudly represented the UK in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where her crew won a bronze medal.
After years of subsequent faithful service as a training vessel in the Royal Naval College, she was renovated and donated to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. She was a featured display when t he museum was opened by the Queen and Prince Philip in 2002.
With 20 years of experience, Marcus opened his wooden boat building workshop in 2003, where he concentrated on building and restoring classic wooden boats. In 2005, he successfully applied and joined the Wooden Boatbuilders' Trade Association, and has recently become a certified Assessor for NVQ Wooden Boatbuilding qualifications.
Marcus is a specialist in the design of racing crafts, small wooden yachts, wooden rowing boats, wooden motor launches, and wooden sailing dinghies.
